How PayPal Can Ruin Your Spiritual Business

If you are just starting out with your Spiritual Business, then you are probably using PayPal to invoice your clients and process your funds. It is easy to sign up and easy to integrate.

However, there is a deep dark secret that PayPal has kept from you. They can, on a whim, withhold your money. No one talks about this. But those of us deep in the digital marketing world know that PayPal is fine as an alternative payment processor but it should NEVER be your only form of payment acceptance.

I had heard the rumors before, “PayPal will hold your money with no explanation.” That was some time ago and I was giving them the benefit of the doubt, hoping they had mended their ways. However, that is not the case. Just this week I ran across this story in one of my groups:

“Yesterday I reached a breaking point. While I was away for 2 weeks, I had invoiced most of my clients via PayPal.

I received emails from PayPal stating that they paid, but I never logged in to transfer the money. When I logged in yesterday, I saw that $2900 was being withheld from me, for 21 days.

I immediately called PayPal and got the run around of how it was an “extra security” step to ensure protection between the seller and the purchaser. I told them these were the same clients I’ve invoiced via PayPal for the past 3 years, for the SAME amount. The customer service rep said, “Sorry, but we can’t release your money for 21 days. There is nothing we can do about it.”

I got so upset I started crying on the phone. THIS money, is how I feed my family. THIS money is how I am supposed to pay my rent. THIS money, is what I rely on…at it’s being withheld from ME? I asked the service rep if when PayPal pays her, if they hold her check for 21 days?” She said, “Um, no.” So I asked, “Then why are they holding MY paycheck?”

She couldn’t give me an answer.

How in the hell am I supposed to live this next 18 days with $0?

Let this be a warning to you. If you are serious about your Spiritual Business, then you need to consider a real shopping cart with a merchant account. Stop treating your business like a hobby.
