I received a great question in my Spiritual Entrepreneur Marketing Facebook Group this week, and I know it is a question on many minds, so I want to share it with you. Here it is…“In the ever changing world of apps & social media… which ones are really necessary for a Spiritual business?”
There are so many options out there, it can be confusing to know which ones to pick.
While success can be found on any platform when using the right strategy, it is important to understand that each platform has their own demographic and their own unique way to be leveraged to the fullest.
But before we begin talking about platforms, the number one thing to consider when picking your platform is… where is your tribe hanging out? Where are they more likely to be mingling on social media?
Are they an Instagram crowd? Facebook? LinkedIn?
Only after you understand exactly who your audience is can you then pick the right platform. If you haven’t already invested in the Discover Your Tribe Implementation Plan, I highly recommend you check it out.
It is the first thing I have every client and student complete, and it is a game changer in how you run your business.
After you have a crystal clear picture of your tribe, then you can pick the right social media platform.
Here is a quick overview of the big 5 platforms:
Facebook has over a billion users, so if you aren’t sure where to start, begin with Facebook. There is a high concentration of spiritual groups on Facebook. If you aren’t ready to invest in advertising yet, then I recommend joining some of those groups and begin sharing your ideas and content. Just make sure you read the group rules first, so you are compliant.
Twitter is perfect for content distribution. Do you write a blog every week? Then make sure you are posting it on Twitter. The catch with Twitter is that your Tweets have a tiny lifespan. So post often to be in front of everyone’s eyes.
PINTERST
If you are selling a physical product, like jewelry or art, then you MUST be on Pinterest. Posting beautiful images of your products with a link back to your website to purchase those products is the best way to leverage Pinterest for your business.
Instagram is about visual storytelling. If you have a specific style or brand you are creating, and you can show that brand through imagery, then Instagram is the place for you.
YOUTUBE/GOOGLE+
The mere fact that both of these platforms are owned by Google, the largest search engine in the world, means you should be on YouTube. I know, I know, video can be scary. But video is the best way to show your personality so your audience can connect with you. It does’t have to be complicated, a smart phone and some great content is all you need to start.
As with anything we do, focus is the key to success. That being said, you should pick ONE social media platform to start with, master it, and then move on to another one. If you attempt to get all of the social media platforms running at once, you will become frustrated and probably quit after a few weeks. A little dedication and consistency will get you results and connecting with your tribe.
